Poonam Dhillon Biography

Poonam Dhillon is an Indian film actress, who was also seen on TV and theatre. This active actress has shown her presence not only in the film industry, but has made a career beyond films also.

Basics
Dhillon was born in Kanpur on April 18, 1963. Her father Amrik Singh Dhillon worked as an aeronautical engineer in the Indian Armed Force. Her mother is Gurcharan Kaur Dhillon. She has a sister, Dr. Rishma Dhillon Pai and a brother Dr. Baljinder Singh Dhillon.

Her schooling was from Carmel Convent High School, Chandigarh, India.

She was married to Ashok Thakeria who is a film producer. She also has two children with him, a son and a daughter called Anmol and Paloma. But this marriage ended soon.

Movies
She first came into the picture with Femina Miss Young India where she was crowned the beauty queen. She then got an offer from director Yash Chopra for the romantic film Trishul (1978). After her excellent performance in this movie she got role in Yash Chopra's Noorie (1979), which was a hit.

She has done around 90 Hindi films: Sohni Mahiwal, Sitamgar, Teri Kasam, Dard, Nishana, Yeh Vada Raha, Samunder, Romance, Red Rose and Kasam.

Poonam Dhillon was also seen in a small role in Boney Kapoor's Judai. She was also nominated for the Filmfare Best Actress Award for her performance in Noorie.

She has also done a couple of Kannada, Telugu, and Bengali films. Dhillon has also acted in the Hindi play The Perfect Husband which received the award for Best Comedy Play (2005) and is currently acting in the play The Perfect Wife.

After Her Movies
She started the business called Vanity which deals with make up vans.

Poonam Dhillon is also the first one to start a personal website and is always seen working for social causes like Aids awareness, Family Planning, Organ Donation and Drug Awareness.

Poonam Dhillon is also a part of India's Bharatiya Janata Party and has also campaigned during elections. She also runs an events company.
